Congrats to Our Employee of The Month; Greg!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Here at Dragon\u2019s Lair Austin, our crew diligently votes on their Employee of The Month- and this month we would like to congratulate our January winner, Greg!<\/strong>\u00a0Greg has been with us since 2013, but if you\u2019ve been in to Dragon\u2019s Lair Comics & Fantasy\u2019s flagship location here in the last 40 years since we opened, you\u2019ve probably had the pleasure of knowing the iconic Gregory Burrow.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Greg was away for most of the year after receiving his cancer diagnosis and fighting the good fight through treatment & chemo. He returned to work during the holidays, though any of us will tell you how hard it was to keep him resting at home. Greg has been an amazing example for a lot of us, with his commitment to keeping a positive attitude and being the first to reach out a helpful hand to anyone who needs it. We sat him down and poked his mind about his charity efforts, his tenor being at The Lair for the last 40 years, and what he loves:

Howdy Greg! After being a customer since Dragon\u2019s Lair opened in 1986, to then working behind the counter for about 12-13 years now- what\u2019s your favorite thing about being at The Lair?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a really hard question, because there\u2019s so many wonderful things about working for The Lair. From the people that work here, the comradery we have, to the joy of hearing people play games & have so much fun- the energy here is important to me. Of course how much we try to do for the community and different local charities, like for example giving free comics to kids at the Dell\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital- those moments and the joy of being apart of that, those are highlights for me and why I love my job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hey perfect segway to my next question! Talking about community and charity work; Greg through The Lair and on your own, you are a community staple because of your charity efforts through the cosplay community. Your appearances as 1960\u2019s Batman most notably of course. What\u2019s your proudest moment that inspires you to keep being involved?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing that comes to mind is being at CASA\u2019s retired Super Hero Run in that Batman costume and having a little boy also dressed up as 1960\u2019s Batman, and him just being over the moon seeing me there. That was wonderful. I mean, it\u2019s just really really special to be able to do stuff for the community, especially for the kids at the Dell\u2019s Children Hospital, or the kids going through the foster system and getting help from our local CASA. Supporting these organizations and the volunteers who advocate for kids that can\u2019t on their own, who are going through scary situations – it makes me proud to be a small part of that effort.\u201d<\/p>\n

What are three items in the store that you wish you could put in everyone’s hands?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cDC NEW FRONTIER!! That is probably the best DC storyline of all time. It is THE perfect primer for anyone who doesn\u2019t know anything about the DC universe, you end up with a basic outline for what each character is about going forward. Oh, I can say I love the game series Horrified. I like the fact that it\u2019s cooperative and everyone has to work together against monsters trying to scare their town. Third pick would probably be Diana Princess of the Amazons- it\u2019s a beautiful kids book that talks about Wonder Woman being a young kid and her experience being an only child raised by the Amazons. I\u2019m glad to see they went there, plus they followed it up with an awesome sequel with her SUPER underrated sister Nubia (Diana and Nubia: Princesses of the Amazons). \u201c<\/p>\n

Last but not least Greg, the most important question here- who’s your favorite superhero of all time?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

*Greg let out the largest sigh I\u2019ve ever heard him give, going on for a few seconds as he contemplated*<\/em>\u00a0“I love a lot of superheroes. Wonder Woman and Batman are up there for sure, but I\u2019m going to have to go with Spiderman. Spiderman is my favorite because when I first saw Spidey Super Stories by Electric Company in 1974, he was the one who got me into superheroes. Then the whole 100 issue run of Spiderman by Stan Lee was next level for me. A coming-of-age story about a teenager who wanted to help his neighborhood- I really connected with that and him because I was a geeky kid who was not super popular. He was going through a lot of the same issues I was. He was constantly being bullied, I was constantly bullied. He was a great example for me at the time. So yeah, Spiderman, he\u2019s the number 1, totally.”
