It’s not too early to start thinking about what you’re going to do for Halloween this year, especially if you’re thinking of running a roleplaying game for your friends. Halloween falls on a Saturday, so it’s the perfect time to light some candles, break out your dice, and enjoy a little horror-focused RPGing.
While the current king, or perhaps we should say queen, of one-short horror RPGs is Free League’s ALIEN RPG, if you’re looking for a deeper experience with more of a folklore feel to it, you’ll want to check out Free League’s Vaesen RPG, a game of gothic horror and Nordic folklore. Their newest book, City of My Nightmares, takes things out of the bucolic 19th century countryside and moves the action to a capital city. Normally, the city is where the heroes are safe from the things that go bump in the night. But not anymore.
City of My Nightmares is a campaign in four parts, four city-focused mysteries that will test the heroes’ courage and skills through investigation and vicious combat where mere mortals are definitely at a disadvantage.
