Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and you know what that means: last minute chocolate runs, overpriced flowers, and an over abundance of the color red.
But it’s also a time for us to reflect on the love we have for one another whether it be family, friends, or a significant other. If you’re ready to dive right into this season of love, then we have a few stories to highlight to get you into the mood…
Bingo Love
What happens when you miss the chance to be with the love of your life but get a second chance 40 years later? When Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray met at church bingo in 1963, it was love at first sight. Forced apart by their families and society, Hazel and Mari both married young men and had families. Decades later, now in their mid-’60s, Hazel and Mari reunite again at a church bingo hall. Realizing their love for each other is still alive forces them to make a decision that will change the course of the rest of their lives. This book comes out on Valentine’s Day (2/14/18).
Intro to Alien Invasion
Don’t be fooled by the title! Intro to Alien Invasion is a sweet lesbian love story wrapped in a sci-fi horror and set on a college campus; where the frat boys, lecherous professors, shallow sorority girls, and fee-hiking administrators all become fodder for an over-sexed alien invasion. The survivors are glorious outsiders — geek, goth, disabled, fat, lesbian — who band together to take back their school and save the world and fall in love in the process.
Wuvable Oaf
This amazingly hilarious graphic novel centers on Oaf Jadwiga a larger than life, hirsute doll-maker and cat enthusiast. On the outside, Oaf is an intimidatingly large dude that has been known to accidentally crush dates in bed, was a former professional wrestler and huge fan of metal. But, what Oaf really wants in life is love. Preferably from a small, surly Morrissey-looking guy who shares his love of cats. The story jumps back and forth between the current time line in which Oaf is pursuing a guy named Eiffel (the lead singer of the band Ejaculoid) and previous points in time including dozens of terrible dates and break-ups. This is the perfect love story for anyone who feels like an outsider in a world they are supposed to fit into. Sometimes love is hairy and, in the case of Wuvable Oaf, very, very hairy.
