Have you been to Moria yet?
That’s right, the OG megadungeon, the greatest of the dwarven halls, Khazad-dûm, where Gandalf stood alone, upon Durin’s Bridge, to block the passage of a Balrog of Morgoth.
“YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”
“Fly, you fools!”
Yeah, that Moria is now a place you can visit in your RPG sessions.
And what makes this especially cool is that we got two versions. One is for the RPG designed specifically for Middle Earth, The One Ring. But the other is for The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, which is compatible with 5th Edition D&D.
Were you thinking about possibly starting a new campaign with the new D&D core books? What campaign could possibly be more awesome than delving the lightless depths of Moria? What makes this especially exciting is the timeline for the books. Free League’s Middle Earth RPGs take place between the death of Smaug and the Battle of the Five Armies, and Bilbo’s “eleventy-first” birthday party. So that epic bridge? It’s still there.
And, if you want something really exceptional, you can take part in the expedition of Balin sonof Fundin to take back Moria from the orcs after the Battle of the Five Armies. Balin was there, after all, one of the companions of Thorin Oakenshield (and Bilbo Baggins). With the great dragon slain, so many orcs slaughtered, and the sinister Necromancer driven from Mirkwood, surely now is the time for the dwarves to once more dwell in Dwarrowdelf.
Well, mayhap, but if you’ve any experience with the current pair of Middle Earth RPGs, you know the sapping corruption of the Shadow can be felt in any dark, abandoned place. And there is the mysterious threat of the monster known as Durin’s Bane that originally drove the dwarves from their greatest city.
But that was over a thousand years ago. Surely that hideous monster has died by now, right?
Right?
So, if you dare, slip into the greatest halls of the dwarven kings of old to marvel at their treasures, and maybe take a few for yourself. Or seek for signs of the Enemy on a quest for Gandalf or Elrond. Or join Balin in his campaign to reclaim the halls of his ancestors. You’ll not only get to see Durin’s Bridge (not yet shattered by Gandalf Stormcrow in his faceoff with the balrog), the Endless Stair, ponder the beauty (and riddle) of the Western Gate, and possibly even visit the tomb of Durin, you might also find treasures not seen since the First Age, or face one of those “nameless things” which gnaw blindly in primordial tunnels through the very roots of the mountains.
Seriously, folks, this is one you are not going to want to miss. Talk to the Elf Friends at your local Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® today and secure your copy of either (or both) versions of Moria.
All Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® locations are independently owned and operated by local folks. Not all stores will carry all games but will be willing to attempt to special order any that they do not carry. (And they’ll carry most.)
