The most recent comic turned Netflix hit has been creating some buzz around this landmark series, and whether you've watched the show yet or not it's a great time to take a look at the original publication. Published by Image comics, drawn by celebrated artist Frank Quitely, and written by industry legend Mark Millar, this series brings some seriously solid storytelling to the table.
Jupiter's Legacy is a different take on the typical superhero genre story, and focuses on how the children of the great American superheroes of the 1930's (The Union) are affected by their parent's legacy, and the daunting expectations they face. The main characters are Sheldon Sampson a.k.a. The Utopian and leader of the Union, his daughter Chloe, son Brandon, wife Grace, and brother Walter. General themes include socioeconomics, politics, and familial conflict. Be warned that the story is quite a bit darker than the Netflix show, and meant for mature readers.
A great prequel to read is the tie-in series Jupiter's Circle, which revolves around the six members of the Union in the 1950's and 1960's. It explores their changing viewpoints and personal demons as they grapple with their differences of opinion from one another.
There are some substantial differences between the televised version and written work, so reading it either before or after watching can give you greater insight on the characters. Stop by today and explore the deviations between them!
